The production of thebiobutanoltakes place using fermentation methods that have found an excellent yield thanks to the use of two bacteria in series, Clostridium acetobutylicum and Clostridium tyrobutiricum.
This synthesis mechanism was developed by the US company Environmental Energy Inc. which, from one cubic meter of grain corn, is able to obtain from 260 to 270 liters ofbiobutanol, the "waste products "of this process are ethanol and hydrogen, both easily marketable.
Thebiobutanolhas a high energy content so as to be thebiofuelmore performing, it surpasses ethanol, biodiesel, methanol and ... has a potential identical to that offossil gasoline. Its environmental profile is even better: thebiobutanolhas a low vapor pressure, this not only allows excellent miscibility with gasoline (it can be mixedbiobutanolto petrol without the risk of stratification or separation and above all without having to make special changes to the fuel systems of cars), adds a new positive aspect by not causing an increase in emissions of volatile organic compounds as happens when using ethanol. THEbiofuelsthey are not all "good with the environment ", some cause great damage at the time of production and others at the time of combustion by raising the emission of voc.
The low vapor pressure of thebiobutanolmakes this biofuel 13.5 vole less volatile than gasoline. It is also more efficient than gasoline-ethanol blends: with thebiobutanolfuel consumption would be reduced with more kilometers per liter of fuel.
Thanks to its characteristics, thebiobutanolit could be easily introduced in the transport sector: being miscible with water it would be able to be distributed by classic petrol pumps, it does not require any modification to the tanks or even to the car engines. Official tests attest to a maximum percentage of mixture with petrol equal to 15% ofbiobutanol. This means that for every 100 liters of fuel, 85 would be gasoline and 15 would bebiobutanol. Putting aside these official estimates, among the forums and industry experiences, documented (unofficial) cases of people who have used -without making any changes to the engine of your car, even with low percentage bioethanol blends - petrol blends ebiobutanolwhere the percentage of biofuel exceeds 50%!
